Raymond Singleton-McGuire States This is the Best Little Eatery In Town!!!!

Raymond Singleton-McGuire visited the Kitchenetta and reports it is well frequented by the locals, which is always a good sign!

Clean and well presented little Deli. Wide range of excellent coffees and a superb range of snacks, baguettes, etc.

Raymond Singleton-McGuire found the staff are friendly. Food is delivered promptly, not to mention very tasty!

Raymond Singleton-McGuire reports he can highly recommend this place if you ever visit Woodhall Spa.

CRIOULA RESORT HOTEL, Santa Maria, Cape Verde

Raymond Singleton-McGuire reports – beware – as this time of year, there are constant strong winds, which is great if you are a windsurfer or kiter, but also, be aware of the strong waves which can grow as high as 10 or 12ft unexpectedly within 20ft from the edge of the beach.

Raymond Singleton-McGuire reports don’t set your hopes too high, as the Crioula Resort Hotel is not the ‘Hilton’ (the Hilton is actually located next-door!). The Crioula Resort Hotel is a laid-back all-inclusive suntrap with surrounding colourful gardens centered with a large swimming pool and a bridged island bar in the centre.  If you treat the Crioula Resort Hotel with an open-mind, then I promise, you will not be disappointed!

CRIOULA RESORT HOTEL, Santa Maria, Cape Verde – Thomas Cook

Raymond Singleton-McGuire reports for those travelling with Thomas Cook, the representative is not available until Day 2 for the introductory meeting. She only attends the hotel for a further two or three days, for short periods and then does not attend the hotel for a further four days until transfer back to the airport.  Raymond Singleton-McGuire tried to text her on the number displayed on the Thomas Cook information board to try and book an excursion and received a reply back from a ‘virtual SMS’ Call Centre, based in the UK, stating that all Thomas Cook excursions require 48 hours notice (that is 4 days after arrival, if you book via your Rep on Day 2!)

Don’t worry, there are copious amounts of Tour Operators, both at the hotel and also on the beach, but be careful as prices do vary and if you book a private guided tour, you will find you may end up having to buy the Tour Guide’s drinks when you stop for refreshment, and perhaps even pay for his meal, when he joins you in his recommended choice of restaurant for lunch.

CRIOULA RESORT HOTEL, Santa Maria, Cape Verde

Raymond Singleton-McGuire reports the beaches are fantastic, clean, tidy and well presented. There are long beach walks either way, although the town centre (Santa Maria) is approximately 1 km or 20 minutes walk.

Raymond Singleton-McGuire reports be careful when buying the local beer in Santa Maria, if you ask for a pint you will be given half a litre, which depending on where you go, will cost between €3.00 and €4.50 (very expensive!). Raymond Singleton-McGuire found prices vary both with drinks and purchases on how wealthy you look, so don’t wear your gold Rolex and diamond rings! as you will not be able to haggle for the best prices!!!

Good …. Bad!!! But Mainly Good!!

First impression on arrival Raymond Singleton-McGuire agreed the Crioula Resort Hotel could benefit from a re-paint/re-furb.

10/10 for the check-in! Must have been the quickest check-in Raymond Singleton-McGuire has ever experienced! Raymond Singleton-McGuire was very lucky to be given ‘Bungalow 657’; frontline overlooking the beach and sea with a small patio surrounded by citrus plants, bushes and flowers.

After experiencing an accident with the bungalow’s plumbing, Raymond Singleton-McGuire received immediate attention and was offered alternative accommodation. As Raymond Singleton-McGuire clearly had the best location within the resort, Raymond Singleton-McGuire declined a change of accommodation and was given a bottle of champagne by the Manager herself, for any inconvenience; another 10/10.
